Shipping a 2022 CAT 623 Scraper
Jamie Horvath is one of our top logistics agents. He’s based out of our West
Palm Beach office but transports equipment nationwide. He specializes in super loads,
like this CAT 623 Scraper.
The scraper was purchased at a local Ritchie’s Bros Auction in Davenport,
Florida. The buyer needed the scraper shipped from Davenport, Florida, to Greenville,
Texas. That’s a 1,088-mile journey from Florida, through Alabama, to Mississippi, and
then Texas.
Because super load shipping regulations vary from state to state, Jamie
ensured the proper permits were pulled for all four. He also pre-planned the route
because the massive CAT 623 Scraper needed to avoid certain areas for safety. The route
Jamie planned didn’t need pilot cars or escort vehicles, saving the client money.

Transporting the CAT 623 Scraper on an 8 Axle Extendable RGN
Trailer
The CAT 623 Scraper measured 45.2L x 11.8W x 12.4H and weighed 88,000 lbs. A
standard RGN trailer wouldn’t cut it. Instead, Jamie found a driver with an 8-axle
extendable, or sometimes known as stretch, RGN trailer. There are six axles alongside
those on the truck’s head. It can be stretched to 61ft, so the trailer becomes 74ft in
total.
The driver extended the RGN trailer to accommodate the 45.2L scraper. The
team unhooked the trailer deck and left it flat on the ground. The driver then drove the
CAT 623 Scraper onto the trailer. The truck backed up to reattach the two parts of the
trailer. Then they add air to the suspension to lift the machine and trailer off the
ground. The team secured the trailer and the scraper, preparing it for transport.
